Welcome to our newsletter with updates the past months from our projects covering education, health, agriculture & environment, and integrated community development. 

The second meeting of the Joint Coordination Committee of the project Improving the Quality of Education in Rural Areas of Angola was chaired by the Minister of Education, Dr. Luísa Grilo in February. At the meeting, topics related to improving the quality of education within the scope of the project were discussed. Also in attendance were the Secretary of State for Pre-School Education and Primary Education, Pacheco Francisco, representatives from KOICA, and Korean educational consultants who are accompanying the project.

Also in the project Improving the Quality of Education in Rural Areas of Angola, children are beginning to benefit from the many teacher training activities. Pictured is the teacher Deolinda and her pupils who are now working on the 15 Steps to Reading and Writing at the Cagundo primary school in Cuanza Norte.

The ADSWAC project in Cuangar recently conducted a meeting to select communities for participation, with the support of traditional authorities (sobas) and the municipal director of agriculture, Mr. Alberto Hossi. The support of these municipal and traditional authorities is important in ensuring that the project engages the most suitable communities. Their involvement also helps ensure local ownership of project activities.

In early February, a capacity building meeting was held with the Community Action Groups from Longa Lupale and Sanjango in Cuito Cuanavale, Cuando Cubango. The meeting focused on forest protection and the importance of tree planting under the Project: Ecosystems, Communities, and Climate Cubango-Okavango (ECCO).Participants discussed strategies to protect forests and highlighted the significance of tree planting in enhancing environmental sustainability. The event was part of ECCO's efforts to engage local communities in conserving ecosystems and mitigating climate change impacts.

With new boreholes and wells being created, effective management by the community is essential for their smooth operation. The photo captures the detailed planning session for the community management of water facilities in Naulila, Cunene. Members of the Water and Sanitation Group (GAS) have committed to putting their plans into action to ensure the sustainability of these vital resources. Activities are part of our Increasing Access to Water project in Cunene, part of the FRESAN programme.

In the community of Tambi-Lola, located in Bibala, Namibe, significant progress is being made with the construction of a water pump house and intake system. Alongside this, a water fountain is being installed to provide farmers with a clean drinking water. Additionally, an irrigation system is being assembled to cover the entire Farmer Field School model plot. These initiatives are designed to greatly enhance water access and bolster local agriculture, ensuring better resource management and increased productivity for the community.
