The program
Invisible Voices is a three-day intensive program, scheduled for the end of summer 2024, aimed at emerging black artists and creatives in Montreal, including masterclasses and workshops, presented in person at the PHI Centre. Several themes will be addressed, including innovative storytelling, sound and audio effects, filmmaking and its obstacles, distribution and festivals, financing and grants, and more.
Here are some mentors who will support the program: Philippe Lacôte, Marie Brassard, Brian D'Oliveira, Ana Brzezińska, Pierre Even, and Claude Girard. Other mentors will be announced later.
The program takes an intersectional approach, focusing on the dynamics that shape under-represented communities and their impacts on creative storytelling, production and distribution.
The goal of the program is to create a space for students, partners, innovators, storytellers, and subject-matter-experts to collaborate; with the hopes of expanding and amplifying the intersections of art, culture and society within the local Black communities. This new program aims to highlight an existing pool of talent within Montreal's Black communities and take them further.
To wrap it all up, a special evening will take place on September 17th to showcase the artists and their projects, followed by a discussion led by Jorge Camarotti on the outcomes and their journey.
