Just as I sat down to write the weekly update, I noticed an email in my inbox. It was from the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department. You can probably guess what they were announcing...I certainly did. The mask mandate is officially back.
This is disappointing, but not surprising. This virus, like all life forms, is adaptable and persistent. It will take more than just brilliant scientific achievement to defeat it once and for all. It will also take human wisdom and patience. Some of us may be feeling overwhelming frustration, anger, or even despair; such feelings seem normal under the circumstances. But when those kinds of feelings build up it can be tempting to want to lash out blindly---with a comment to a stranger in the store, or with a rant on Facebook. But if we have learned anything in the past 1.5 years it's the truth of Proverbs 15:18
"Those who are hot-tempered stir up strife, but those who are slow to anger calm contention."
It's days like these that Christian wisdom and peace prove priceless. My message to you (and to myself) is to care for your inner life and seek wisdom. If you are angry, talk through it with a good friend. If you are depressed, seek signs of joy. If you are distressed or anxious, step back and breathe. We are developing an entirely new understanding of how to socialize and interact with each other. We have witnessed the destruction that anger and contempt can wreak ad nauseum. Our faith, our Scriptures, and our traditions offer another way--the way of Christ. Let us seek that way together under all circumstances!
Wishing you peace,
New COVID restrictions
St. Andrew's Health Task Force has issued a new directive for activities on our campus in light of Santa Barbara County Public Health Department's recent Health Officer Order effective August 6. Please click here to read the HTF document.
Masks are required for all those attending worship while indoors, regardless of vaccination status (with the exception of those who are leading worship from the chancel). We will have masks available. We also ask that anyone who might have symptoms or exposure stay home and attend online.
Sunday School Teachers Needed
As you might have noticed, we now have children attending Sunday school and we are thrilled to have some little ones in our midst.
We are looking for volunteers to help us with them on Sunday mornings, on a one-time or regular basis.
