Tales from the High Stool - 9pm.
Pádraig Ó Cuinn hosts this program on 2RRR with interviews with people involved in local & global music. Guests are invited into a virtual 'pub' to sit on 'The High Stool', & discuss music, musical influences, & whatever they like, with their virtual 'bar-person'.
This week his guest is Nerida Cuddy. Nerida grew up on the edge of a bush reserve in Sydney, & chose to spend most of her young adult years in far west NSW. She sees Australia as a weaving of ancient peoples & new, untold beauty & harsh extremes, resilience & brokenness; a land that holds us all. She has lived in the central west NSW town of Canowindra for 19 years, with a background of involvement with youth & community work. These experiences have contributed keen observation & insight to Nerida’s writing, in songs like ‘She Is a Woman’ – a lament & protest about violence against women – & 'Mother’s Heart', a song about an older friend who demonstrates the cohesion & connection deeply valued & practised in Australia’s indigenous culture. Her latest album, 'Woven', features Australian story-songs written with “real emotional & narrative depth” (Fred Smith), in the language of the Australian landscape. It is a beautifully recorded album & it leaves you with a feeling that you have just been wrapped up in the warmth of a blanket while sitting by a campfire in the bush!
