Hey,
Hope you’re well!
I thought I’d do a bit of an email about the locations in the second Marshall book, WHERE THE BODIES LIE.
Not wishing to spoil things too much, but the bodies lie in a wood where I walk my dogs most days. Elibank is part of the Elibank and Traquair Forest, managed by Forestry & Land Scotland as part of the Tweed Valley park. The woods are mostly pine trees, but there’s life beneath the trees – I’ve seen deer, rabbits, hares and red squirrels there, among many different birds of prey. And normal birds are always singing and tweeting.,
Walking there got me through the first lockdown, as it let me get out into the world and let me explore. I had so many phone calls with friends at other ends of the country there, to the point where I can remember conversations as if they'd happened in that location. It kept me going during a very dark time.
The woods are on the south bank of the Tweed, in amongst a lot of ancient manor houses (probably all paid for by very dodgy money coming from the New World...). There are three entrances to the woods, which give very different walks.
The third one leads up the hill and connects with many other paths, including Innerleithen’s world-class mountain biking paths and the Southern Upland Way. One time when I was walking there, two horrible Alsatians attacked Rosie and bit her bum, with their owner in full denial mode. Honestly. (She was fine and healed!). Here's Misty and Rosie (both sadly lost) up there a few years ago:
