Faithfully remembered

Fr. Michael Storey knows he might not be able to attend a formal Remembrance Day service this November 11. As a hospital chaplain in the Diocese of Calgary, the Catholic priest could find himself beside a hospital bed when other Calgarians pause in reverent silence at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. At Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Academy, a school belonging to the family of Christ The Redeemer Catholic Schools, the community commemorates Remembrance Day with a liturgy to honour fallen soliders, those who have served, and those presently serving.

Historically, a guest speaker is invited each year to share their experience of serving our country from  their specialized branch (Navy, Military, Air Force) to an audience consisting of staff, students and local community members.

A Grade 5 class had the unique opportunity to FaceTime with George Hope, a veteran of the Second World War and lifetime member at Redcliff Legion Branch No. 6. Using the gift of technology, students had the chance to pose questions and listen to Mr. Hope recall memories from his experience overseas.
