After I wrote my article on FRESH bioprinting, I reached out to Dr. Feinberg, who developed the FRESH printing method with his team. Even when he was on sabbatical, he connected me to researchers in his team, Jaci, Maria, and Rachelle.
On October 18th, I got to get on a call with Jaci to talk about the questions I had about FRESH and other research her team has been working on.
Jaci was very interesting and kind to answer all of my curiosities (yes, this is my shoutout to her 🔊), and it was generally an amazing opportunity to meet someone who has actually created the bioprinting technology I'm using--I am currently building a FRESH bioprinter--and learn about areas of bioprinting I wasn't familiar with.
For example, I learned that researchers are looking towards making 3D bioprinted cardiovascular tissues beat by mechanically training the heart muscles, just like how we work out our muscles to buff up 💪. I know, it’s so sick!
I am really grateful for this experience and look forward to talking to some more amazing people like her! (p.s. I’ll be on a call with Dr. Feinberg and Jaci next month!!!)
