Now, you may be saying, "Well, this doesn't tell me anything that I didn't already know that FB was doing."
But here's the thing:
Yes, FB has been doing this all along, but denying it. Now they've put it in their TOS which means they plan to crack down even harder on content they don't agree with.
Why is this wrong?
You may say, "Well, it's Zuckerberg's platform, he can do with it what he wants."
Not exactly.
For years, FB has claimed to be a neutral platform, but their practices belied this claim.
While Zuckerberg claims that FB doesn't shadow-ban, it - in fact - does in a very sneaky way....called algorithms.
Those who work behind the scenes for FB have admitted that FB's algorithms push religious (particularly fundamentalist) content to the bottom of the algorithm pile....rendering it useless on the platform.
And we all know what happens if you post a pro-Trump or anti-mask post.
I have seen firsthand what happens to fan pages that post pro-Trump material on their personal profile.
During the last election, a blogger friend, with a fan page of nearly a half-a-million likes, posted pro-Trump material. Now, she's not even an American citizen...she just liked him and found him amusing.
Before the election season, her page was extremely active and she got tons of traffic from FB. During and after election season her page was almost completely dead.
Coincidence?
No.
No - FB is not neutral....and should be considered a "publisher", which would guarantee it's users freedom of speech and freedom from being censored and closed down.
But, this new change to FB's TOS lets us know that they will be amping up the censorship and closure of pages and profiles that continue to post content that the Fact Checkers deem "false information".
All under the guise of "adverse legal or regulatory impacts".
That is legal speech for "We don't want your content here".
And that's fine.
They haven't had my content in quite a while anyway -- I've taken my content to Parler and MeWe.
And - friends - I do believe it comes down to this: Will we choose to stay because that's where we feel comfortable and entertained, or will we stand on principle and leave to a platform that guarantees our free speech?
Because staying at FB is agreement with their cancel-culture, socialist approach.
They are not a neutral platform.
This is why I appreciate Parler and MeWe.
They do not censor content, unless it violates the law. (Ironically, that is content that FB very often leaves up: pornography, violent images, etc).
MeWe also does not run on an algorithm.
What you post will show up in your friends' timelines. They do not sell your personal information - it is a completely safe platform to be on and a very good alternative to FB.
I want to strongly encourage you to consider switching -- based on principle.
If you'd like, I can send out another newsletter this week with instructions on how to open and use both MeWe and Parler.
Just reply to this email to let me know that this is something you would be interested in.
