Dickson Mgidange Mandenga, works as a physics and chemistry teacher at Lord's Hill High School. Dickson is the one who is allowed to gain work experience in Germany for a year. IOP Germany makes this experience possible. IOP Germany cooperates with the Joseph Beuys Gesamtschule in Kleve, Germany.
This school has been given 4 places by the German government to give young people a year's work experience in Germany. The school asked IOP Germany if they were interested in filling a place with a young adult from IOP Tanzania.
IOP Germany was pleasantly surprised that they were offered this opportunity and after consultation with IOP Tanzania a selection procedure took place. From that selection procedure, Dickson is the one who took this place.
Dickson has been in Germany since August 8 2021. He lives in the house of Jos & Irma and works at the school.
His first impressions are overwhelming for him, because Dickson has never been outside Tanzania. Everything is new, the language, the food, the streets, the buildings, the machines and of course the time and speed in Europe. His first priority is learning German, as soon as he has a reasonable command of it, he can start teaching his own subjects. Now he participates in various activities at school and he receives 1 on 1 German lesson. He is with the Connect group, which is a group of young people from church who meet twice a month on a Thursday evening and then they talk about all kinds of topics. This group also organizes joint activities with each other. It's important that Dickson build his own life here with people of his own age. Through these contacts, he learns a lot about German culture and habits.
We think it is a special experience to have Dickson in our house, and we hope that he will take all his experiences and adventures with him to Tanzania to be able to share it with his own people.
