The Grundy Resiliency Project has taken its first major step toward building a more diverse economy for Grundy by awarding its economic overview to the University of Michigan Economic Growth Institute.

The GEDC, Chamber, and the University of Michigan team are gathering data for analysis and will be using economic modeling software and tools for study and comparison to state and federal data.

The completed economic overview is expected by September 2023. The results of the study will provide the foundation for the long-term economic strategy, and the timeline for the scope of work for the overall project will be 24 months.

What needs are most pressing for our County's transportation system? Help to steer the future of Grundy County's transportation infrastructure by engaging with the "Grundy Moves" project this summer!

CDM Smith, the firm completing the countywide transportation study, has collected key traffic data points to inform a transportation improvement program (TIP). The goal of this study is to create a TIP that identifies priority transportation improvement projects for Grundy; this data-driven study will help our region compete for grants to fund these improvements.

Stay tuned for information about the public survey and a virtual "open house" to engage with preliminary study findings and to ensure your voice is heard.

Did you know that Grundy County was third out of 102 Illinois counties in population growth by percentage from 2010-2022? During this interval, Grundy grew by 7.6% (3,827 residents). In first, Kendall County grew by 20.1% growth (23,078 residents) and Johnson County, in second, grew by 11% (1,381 residents). 

By increase in number of residents between 2020 and 2022, Grundy ranked 7th behind Kendall, WIll, Lake, DuPage, Champaign, and McHenry counties.

Grundy's population is expected to grow by 7.3% (3,948 residents) between 2022 and 2027.

Project Margarita - A data center project is conducting a real estate search. A Grundy site was submitted to Intersect Illinois.

Project One - An agricultural equipment manufacturer is seeking a site in North America. A Grundy site was visited in June.

Multiple green hydrogen projects are searching for sites in our region.

The GEDC will be hosting an Internship Recognition Reception on August 9 at the Morris Country Club. The dinner is for interns, their parents/guardians, and business sponsors to celebrate the end of the 2023 Grundy County Internship Program. This year 38 interns gained valuable experience with 15 local organizations.

Walmart Distribution Center Hiring Events - Walmart's new distribution center in Minooka will be holding hiring events on Tuesday, July 18 and Wednesday, July 26 at Minooka's Village Hall. Click here for a flyer with more information, and help to spread the word.
