Highlights

ICOS measurements show huge methane peaks in the atmosphere after Nord Stream leaks

Due to the damage to the Nord Stream gas lines in the Baltic Sea, an enormous amount of methane gas has been released into the atmosphere. The leak is estimated to be equal to the size of a whole year's methane emissions of a country like Denmark or a city the size of Paris. The methane emissions are confirmed by ICOS ground-based observations from several stations in Sweden, Norway, and Finland. See a simulation of the methane plume and more updates on our website.

First ever hybrid ICOS Science Conference held successfully in Utrecht

ICOS Science Conference 2022 gathered over 420 scientists from all across the world on-site in Utrecht, the Netherlands, and online from 13-15 September 2022. The overarching theme of the conference was 'Tracking progress to carbon neutrality'.

The first volume of FLUXES, the European Greenhouse Gas Bulletin out now

FLUXES, the European Greenhouse Gas Bulletin is a new publication by ICOS, which aims at highlighting climate issues to an audience of policymakers, policy advisors, and climate journalists. The first volume of FLUXES focuses on regional and year-over-year changes in carbon sinks in Europe.
