An explosion reportedly occurred aboard a vessel approximately 57NM south of Aden.
Update: The Master of a Bulk Carrier reported two explosions in the water near the vessel. The crew reportedly remained safe, and the vessel continued towards its next port of call. At 14:17 UTC, another explosion occurred approximately 500 meters from the vessel at position 12°10'N 044°7'E. Subsequently, two more explosions were reported in close proximity at position 13°03'N 043°08'E. No damage was reported, and the crew remained safe.
On 22/08/2024 at 07:59 UTC, the vessel was hit by an Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) on the Port beam, resulting in minor damage but no casualties. At 09:00 UTC the same day, another explosion occurred approximately 10 meters away on the Port side midship at position 14°23'N 042°6'E.
The onboard armed security team (AST) reportedly fired at a USV, causing an explosion and minor damage to the vessel. The ship performed evasive maneuvers and confirmed all watertight integrity was intact.
Vessels are advised to avoid this area and the Castorvali team will continue to provide updates and analysis to support informed decision-making in navigating these waters.
