CMA (10/16) CMA Publishes 2025 Legislative Wrap-Up - The California Medical Association (CMA) released its 2025 Legislative Wrap-Up, titled Navigating Change. The report highlights CMA’s advocacy victories, including reforms to streamline prior authorization, new protections against private equity influence in medical decision-making, and safeguards to prevent misuse of artificial intelligence in health care. CMA also successfully blocked bills that could have negatively impacted patient care and physician practice, such as those expanding non-physician scope of practice or imposing excessive AI compliance burdens.
CMA (10/29) CMA Adopts Governance Reforms to Modernize House and Resolution Process - The California Medical Association adopted major governance reforms to modernize its House of Delegates and resolution process, introducing a new two-interval model that allows for more timely policy action throughout the year. The changes, developed by the Governance Technical Advisory Committee after extensive stakeholder input, aim to streamline operations and enhance member engagement in policy development.
AAFP (11/10) Final 2025 MPFS Brings Primary Care Payment Boost and Other Wins - The AAFP supported the 2026 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule’s higher conversion factors, updated practice expense methodology favoring independent practices, the efficiency adjustment to maintain fair valuations, new Advanced Primary Care Management add-on codes, permanent telehealth supervision flexibilities, expanded use of code G2211, and the continued QPP performance threshold of 75 points. However, the AAFP expressed concern that the practice expense adjustment could negatively affect family physicians who work in facility settings and said it will advocate for exemptions for rural practices while monitoring potential unintended impacts.
MGMA (11/13) MGMA Seeks WISeR Reform - MGMA joined more than 30 physician organizations in commending House Appropriations Committee leaders for unanimously adopting an amendment to halt funding for the WISeR Model, allowing time to address significant concerns with its design and implementation. The groups note that prior authorization already causes delays, administrative burden, and adverse patient impacts in Medicare Advantage, and emphasize that applying similar requirements to Medicare Fee-for-Service demands strong safeguards, thoughtful planning, and direct engagement with frontline clinicians who were not consulted during the model’s development.
Aledade (11/17) Aledade's 2024 Public Benefit Report Demonstrates Mission-Driven Health Care Impact - Aledade released its second annual Public Benefit Report highlighting how its value-based care model delivered record savings in 2024 while advancing its mission to support patients, practices, and communities. The report details major achievements, including preventing hundreds of thousands of unnecessary hospital and ED visits, generating more than $775 million in shared savings for primary care practices, and delivering over $1 billion in Medicare savings, with a strong emphasis on support for underserved areas and a mission-driven workforce.
AAFP (11/19) L’Oréal Honoree Anita Ravi, MD, says Family Medicine Set Foundation for Success - Anita Ravi, MD, MPH, MSHP, FAAFP, shared how family medicine equips physicians to care for survivors of gender-based violence by preparing them to address medical needs, social complexities, and system navigation through a whole-person lens. Her work founding the PurpLE Health Foundation, training clinicians, and leading within AAFP and the AMA highlights the specialty’s adaptability and its focus on trust, continuity, and trauma-informed primary care. Her recognition as a 2025 L’Oréal Paris Woman of Worth brings added visibility and support to advancing this emerging area of family medicine.
