We start this newsletter looking back on 2022 by recording the sad passing of Gaby Dings on 15 October after a year-long battle with cancer. Our warm thoughts go out to her life partner and our past general secretary Creon Swaghoven at this sad time.

Gaby had an enormous impact on the life and work of CEEC over the years, also being our much treasured communications manager. Others will take over from here, building upon what Gaby created, but it will be an extremely hard act to follow!  Here is Gaby’s ‘final message’ to all:

The Board decided to make a collective CEEC donation of 100 euros.

Following the gathering in Berne, Switzerland in May 2022, the videos of the presentations are available on the CEEC website – firstly, Ludovic Jean, our French delegate’s presentation on the topic ‘Life cycle cost calculations in France‘. 

Secondly, the presentation by Michael von Allmen, from the city of Berne, on the challenges of restoring the old city of Berne, being a UNESCO World Heritage site.

CEEC held a workshop to discuss the development of the various project work. There was also the possibility to visit the UNTEC exhibitor stands as well as to attend technical seminars arranged by UNTEC. The 86th CEEC General Assembly was also held. This included discussing the emerging plans for our next gathering in London on 15 – 17 June 2023 and deciding on the various projects to be taken forward. Our President, Agnete Skytte, and General Secretary, Mary Flynn, had the honour to present one of the UNTEC annual prizes – the European Prize.

A big thank you to UNTEC for organizing such a great and successful event.

The ICEC World Congress 2022 was held 12 - 15 June in Rotterdam. The topic of the congress was ‘Predictable Projects in a Dynamic World’. Agnete Skytte, joined two panel discussions. The first topic was the ‘future of the cost & value engineer‘ profession. The subject of the second panel discussion was the development and implementation of the ICMS 3. Being a member of the ICMS standard setting committee, Tim de Jonge, our Dutch delegate from NVBK, also joined the discussion.

It is encouraging to report that efforts are being made to form a Belgium QS/CE association. More information will follow soon!

The CEEC delegates have decided to focus on the following projects in the future:

1. The existing office cost model, lead by Irish delegate Gerry O’Sullivan, will be updated to align with the cost classification ICMS 3. As Gerry is approaching retirement, the project lead will be taken over by Simone Dumas, our Swiss delegate from maneco.
2. A new apartment cost model will be launched, led by Bryn Griffiths, our new Irish delegate from SCSI. It will apply the same principles of the office cost model.
3. Also, a new Infrastructure cost model has already been launched led by Dutch delegate, Erik Schulte from NVBK. This project also aims for collaboration with organizations outside the CEEC.
4. The initial studies for a sustainable renovation research project is currently also taking place under the leadership of our Dutch delegate, Tim de Jonge.
