Dear St. Andrew's Community and Friends:
This week marks my final sermon and service as my term as Interim Pastor concludes. I was drawn to the description of how the Israelites journey toward the promised land began ...God would lead them in a "circuitous" route rather than a straight line, that they carried with them the "bones" of their ancestor Joseph, and they were led by the mysterious pillar of cloud and pillar of fire each step of the way. These themes helped me to look back on our time together, and what lies ahead.
We are joined by Rev. Kate Weibe, who has been our denominational liaison the last two years. Kate, Scott and I share in a liturgy marking the completion of my service, and our shared commitment to honor healthy boundaries of ministry as I depart.
Emma Voigt is our reader. Chris and Erin lead us in "As the Deer," "O Lord, Hear My Prayer," and "On Eagles' Wings." Chris plays a serene Schuman piece at the beginning and an original composition at the conclusion. Disciple Dog and I have one more story to share with you.
Following the service is our usual coffee hour and adult education service. Details below.
I will continue to work through November 20, then take vacation until the end of the month.
I look forward to seeing you one last time on Sunday.
With gratitude, Steve
