At the start of a New Year, there’s discussion around the Circuit about adopting a new way of working. Instead of each church operating as a separate charity – with all the responsibilities that brings – instead it’s proposed that we work together in what are called “multi-site churches”. This is not about closing churches; it is about putting our resources to work in the best possible way.
To fully explain the proposals, the Circuit has organised four roadshows at which the same information will be presented at different times and venues. One roadshow will be held in our church on Tuesday 14th January at 10.30am with a presentation followed by questions and answers.
Following the roadshows, each Church Council will have to decide whether to join in a multi-site church. This is a very important decision and so it’s good for as many people as possible to share in the discussion.
Don’t worry, we’re not going to spend the whole year talking about church structures! We need to take decisions in February which will set our path going forward. Much of church life – Sunday services, midweek activities, pastoral care – will continue as before but our resources are limited and the challenges the church faces are big, so we must work out the best possible way to serve God and our neighbours.
You’re warmly invited to attend a roadshow or ask someone else to tell you all about it. Watch this space to hear how things develop.
Roger.
