A report has been received about a vessel that experienced interference with its electronic navigation systems (GPS/AIS) from 23:00 UTC on April 2 to 01:00 UTC on April 3. The incident occurred 95NM East of Ras Al Zour, Saudi Arabia. The exact position was not specified.
There are multiple verified and unverified reports of AIS spoofing and “ghost” targets in and around the Strait of Hormuz, possibly with intent to divert vessels into Iranian territorial waters, but this is the first in recent months this far North of the Strait.
Vessels are advised to proceed with caution in this area and report any unusual activity to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
