77th WCCD Annual Celebration

Commemorate another year of service to our community by attending Washtenaw County Conservation District's 77th Annual Celebration at Cobblestone Farm in Ann Arbor, MI. Attendees will enjoy a farm-to-table dinner provided by Harvest Kitchen, a keynote presentation by Bridget O'Brien of Gateway Farm on taking a permaculture mindset into conservation in action, a community awards ceremony, and the WCCD board of director elections. There will be music, mingling, and merriment to be had by all who attend!

Take Action & Collect Milkweed!

Common milkweed is the priority native species to support the Monarch butterfly. Unfortunately, their population is declining toward extinction. Loss of habitat in the summer breeding grounds is another factor that could be contributing to the decline in monarch numbers. We are losing 6,000 acres of potential monarch/pollinator habitat a day in the United States due to development (2.2 million acres per year).

There is no doubt that our landscapes are becoming more fragmented and that there is less and less habitat for monarchs, pollinators, and wildlife that share the same habitat. This trend will surely continue…unless we step up and do something about it.

Michigan Transition for Organic Partnership Program

The Michigan Transition for Organic Partnership Program has developed an interactive map of resources for organic, regenerative, and other farmers working in the sustainable agriculture space. This map shows the locations of retailers of equipment, inputs, and services; locations of sales outlets; organic certifiers and other educators and technical assistance providers; and the locations of FSA, MACD, and MSUE offices throughout the state. Map marker colors indicate different categories of resources, and different icons within colors show different subcategories. Users can show or hide different categories of resources, depending on their focus.
