This holiday season, the best gift you can give is safety in your home, for your loved ones and yourself. Our number one tip for all of you is to remember, that it's the people who matter most, so try not to get caught up in the rest.

How will you spend it?

In 2024, WorkSafeNB offered a historic Performance Refund, a distribution of surplus funds from its accident fund to eligible New Brunswick employers. This was made possible by the collective safety efforts of employers and workers, along with strong investment returns.

WorkSafeNB created a Dragon’s Den style competition for our employees to pitch their ideas on how to spend our own Performance Refund. A team of employees chose the finalists and our executive leadership team selected winners.

One of the winning ideas was from our Workforce Re-entry Manager, Cynthia Clarke. She suggested a Home Safety Bonus: making $200 available to each employee to make their homes safer. Top items included:

• Fire extinguishers
• First aid kits
• Ladders

Holiday payment schedule 2025 –26

Benefit Payment (BenPay) Services is committed to ensuring workers receive payments quickly and efficiently. During the holiday season, WorkSafeNB will process loss of earning payments in advance. If you are a worker who receives loss of earning benefits, long term disability or pension benefits please see the holiday payment schedule below to plan your finances accordingly.

• Regular loss of earnings payments due between December 18 – 28 was issued on December 18.

• Long-term disability (LTD) and pension benefits was issued on December 18.

• December 29 and 30 will be regular pay days.

• Regular loss of earnings payments due between December 31, 2025, and January 1, 2026, will be issued on December 30.

• On January 2, 2026, we will return to regular payment schedule.

Upcoming finance system upgrade: Temporary pause in supplier payment processing

In our commitment to trust, accountability and client-focused service, WorkSafeNB is updating our finance system to an Oracle cloud-based solution, effective January 31, 2026. Oracle is a trusted platform used by businesses all over the globe. Mobile-friendly, it offers self-serve options such as payment status tracking, access to historical data, and the ability to update contact and banking information.

For a successful transition from one system to another, invoice and purchase order activities will be on hold during the cutover period. Supplier payments will be processed after February 9, 2026.

These changes do not affect injured workers.

In the courts

WorkSafeNB's health and safety officers and occupational hygienists are given legislative authority to write orders under the OHS Act, to improve safety and prevent workplace injuries in New Brunswick.

When these orders are not complied with, or when an incident has taken place as a result of a violation of the Act and/or its regulations, WorkSafeNB may recommend charges to the Department of Justice.

Shovel smart this winter

A fresh new snowfall may be welcomed by many, but it poses certain risks for New Brunswick workers.

Workers who don’t take precautions before shovelling snow can experience cold exposure, fatigue, muscle strains, back injuries and heart attacks.
