August 2019

A big sunny welcome to you all! I hope you're having a fantastic August.  I've just returned from a wonderful trip to Brittany, enjoying fine French hospitality, fine weather and fine food. I always look out for inspiration wherever I go and this visit certainly didn't disappoint. (I've posted a few holiday pics on my website blog!)

Prior to my trip, I was working on a top secret commission, which I still can't reveal, although it won't be long now!! Keeping work under wraps is not easy for me!

The above image is an extract of one of the new experimental semi-abstract pieces I was working on during the last news edition. 'Drift' sold on the day it was framed! Needless to say I decided to create another one while I was still in the zone! This new piece is featured further down!

I'm really enjoying this new style of creativity and a different approach to textile interpretation. I still haven't quite decided whether or not to publish these pieces as prints. Your thoughts, as always, would be very welcome! Keep scrolling down to see the latest one as well as everything else I've been up to and of course, what's coming up!

2020 Exhibition!!

I'm thrilled to announce that dates are being set for a joint Spring exhibition for 2020, with my good friend and fellow artist, Shirley Kirkcaldy.  'Fusion'  will be a contemporary collaboration of our two styles and mediums, a diverse exhibition crossing over on selected themes. There will be a few surprises! The venue is Harbour House in Kingsbridge and the show will run for two weeks in late April and early May.  Exact dates to be confirmed in the next news edition. I'm so excited about this show and the prospect of creating a brand new collection of work. I'm a huge fan of Shirley's art and past exhibitions have demonstrated how well our styles complement each other.

The wonderful gallery space at Harbour House, located in the centre of Kingsbridge. Lots of walls means lots of art!!!! To learn more about this venue, please visit www.harbourhouse.org.uk

An example of Shirley Kirkcaldy's contemporary acrylic landscapes. Colour, light and texture feature strongly in her work and is greatly influenced by the rugged South West landscape and coastline. To see more of her work, please visit www.shirleykirkcaldyart.com

New Art Revealed In Style!

I was delighted to be invited to exhibit my new work at the 4th birthday party of one of Devon's finest fashion boutiques! Identity Fashion, in Plymouth's Royal William Yard, was the perfect venue to display my latest piece, as well as other works from my latest collections. A fabulous afternoon and evening celebrating fashion and art, as well as raising money for local charities.

'Glow' is my own textile portrayal of an enchanting night sky. Pure warmth and layer after layer of rich textures.  There is a good reason so many artists seek to capture this awe-inspiring sight.   Sunsets make us stop and stare, appreciate nature at it's finest, lose ourselves. The sail on the horizon serves to add perspective and movement but also to reflect that special feeling of being at one with the elements. You don't have to travel far to see a spectacular sunset but this one was inspired by a visit to Costa Rica last Christmas, where one of the highlights for me was watching so many people, locals and tourists alike, simply stop and head to the beach to enjoy this beautiful sight.

Here's a close up of the textures and that special copper sail on the horizon. An abundance of rich vibrant texture creating the depth and drama of a sunset at it's most breathtaking few moments.

This piece is available to buy. It measures 42 x 19" and is priced at £1200. Please contact me if you are interested or would like further details.

RNLI Art Show!

One of my favourite events of the year is the RNLI art sale in the beautiful village of  Newton Ferrers in the South Hams.  As always, it will be taking place over the August Bank Holiday weekend (24/25th).

I am delighted to have been invited once again to take part in this wonderful event which raises money for such a worthy cause. There are some fabulous Devon artists taking part and lots of contemporary art to enjoy and of course, take home!

Venue - Newton Ferrers WI Hall
             Newton Ferrers
             PL8 1AS

Opening times 10 - 5 both days.

Hope to see you there!

On The Cards!

Due to the rising costs of being able to keep my greeting cards eco friendly, I'm afraid they will no longer be available to purchase through my website.  However! They are available to buy from the award winning card company, Glebe Cottage - Eco Friendly Greeting Cards. You can buy cards directly from their website or from various stockists around the country.  As the list of stockists is so extensive, please get in touch if you'd like to know where your nearest one is.

Here is the link to my collection on their website

They are planning to add more designs later in the year and I will, of course, let you know!
