Publication Cross-border transmission capacity calculation Analysis of the key parameters
The study concludes on the expected future evolution of the capacity calculation methodologies and parameters. The capacity calculation methodology for the Core region, resulting from the merging of the CWE region with the Central East European (CEE) region exhibits major improvements compared to the current flow-based approach in the CWE region, in terms of transparency and for the design of the LTA patch. However, the calculation of the intraday capacity based on an updated model, which is a key to obtain an efficient market, will be implemented only in 2021. On the Nordic side, it is surprising that the use of negative RAMs is not seen as a problem. Furthermore, it is surprising to observe that the risk levels chosen in the different capacity calculation regions for the reliability margins are different. On a more positive tone, it must also be noted that the evolution of the maximum allowable power flow calculation methods should lead to an increased offered transmission capacity to the market. For that purpose, flexible and dynamic line rating calculations should be implemented to limit too conservative Fmax ratings. Similarly, the update of the capacity that can be allocated to the market in the intraday timeframe will allow a reduction of reliability margins close to real-time. Download the study

Summary Report COVID-19 Recovery: Accelerating Energy Transitions in EU & GCC Power Sector
The EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network organised on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 the webinar COVID-19 Recovery: Accelerating Energy Transitions in EU & GCC Power Sector which facilitated dialogue amongst businesses and governments from the EU and the GCC nations on the recommendations of a Policy Brief titled:‘Covid-19 recovery: How the G20 can accelerate sustainable energy transitions in the power sector by supporting the private sector’, issued by T20 Saudi Arabia. The Policy Brief outlines recommendations on how governments can support the private sector to deliver economic growth, create jobs, and support climate action. The proposed measures involve (1) coordinating on sustainable recovery measures in the G20, (2) expanding renewable energy generation, (3) accurately reflecting environmental externalities and ensuring just transitions in the fossil-fuel sector, and (4) promoting efficient electricity consumption and faster electrification.
