Great news! Hong Kong Shark Foundation (HKSF) has created our first Impact Statement quantifying our positive results in 2021. To date, HKSF has 48 shark-free company commitments, taught and inspired over 33,000 students, and convinced 247 weddings to be shark-free. HKSF will continue collecting data to show our growing impact on shark conservation and you can follow our progress on our NEWLY revised website here.

Despite the pandemic, our Shark Ambassador Education program grew in 2021, reaching 7,600 students as of July! HKSF also held our 12th educational walking tour, educating people about the stark reality of the lucrative and unsustainable dried shark fin market in Hong Kong. To learn more about our education programs, please visit our website.

Fundraising in the past few years, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, brought new challenges for HKSF. Our focus in 2021 was to cultivate partnerships with online fundraising platforms like SimplyGiving.com and our best online fundraising success story was that of two amazing 10 year old students studying at ISF Academy in Hong Kong who kindly raised over HKD 20K to help raise awareness about the plight of sharks. These bright and passionate kids are wonderful examples that our Shark Ambassador education program is working and has a meaningful and positive impact on students which allows HKSF to plant the seeds of change for tomorrow! In 2020-21, HKSF has also partnered with other amazing organizations to expand our fundraising efforts. HKSF had a huge success in our petition against German Pool! As a result of our petition, German Pool has taken down their video that promoted shark fin soup on their “Happy Kitchen” social media page. Thank you to German Pool and to those who supported this effort to raise awareness about shark conservation!

Help us in the final push to get Tao Heung Holdings Limited to take shark fins off the menu! Sign the petition asking them to stop selling shark products in all of their 160 restaurants across Hong Kong and Mainland China. Please take action to support this and other active petitions supported by HKSF!

2021 was a milestone year for HKSF events! Our Weibo/Baidu online "live" event collaborated with leading Beijing NGO, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation. This was our first event with an NGO in China and we had over 9,000 live attendants plus 166,000 follow-up clicks to CBCGDF’s website. HKSF looks forward to doing more events in China to raise awareness about shark conservation.

For World Ocean Week 2021, HKSF was invited to participate on June 5th at the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club's first World Ocean Day Exhibition 2021. HKSF was honoured to be a speaker at the event and have our compassionate summer interns interact and educate members about shark conservation.

For Shark Awareness Week 2021, HKSF had a very successful beach cleanup on Saturday, July 17. A big thank you to everyone who came out! Not only did our fantastic volunteers help clean this private Wu Kai Sha Pebbles Beach, but they also got a chance to learn about shark conservation, the global shark crisis, and how they can save sharks AND give back to the ocean. These are only a few of HKSF's many successful events as we continue to raise awareness for shark conservation and the ocean in 2021.
