What's a Book Bundle, and How Can I Get One?

Due to flooding repairs, we are unable to open our doors even for limited capacity visitors. We have been preparing to reopen and working with the Governor's guidelines, and we're ready to welcome everyone back as soon as the work in the basement is complete.

In the interim, we're excited to bring you our newest offering: Book Bundles! Here's how it works:

1.

Fill out the form at bit.ly/BookBundleRequest. You'll tell us your preferences for books or movies: fiction or nonfiction, mystery or romance, that kind of thing. There's even a line that asks "Is there anything else you want to tell us about your request?" This is where you can get as specific as you like. For example, I have a friend who only reads books where someone dies in the first chapter. It tells her, this is going to be action-packed. It's her thing. And, that line is where she'd write "There's gotta be a dead body in the first chapter."

2.

Our literary experts curate a bundle based on your preferences (number of books, genre, format, etc.). If necessary, we'll contact you to get more information so we can create the best selection for you.

    3.

When your bundle is ready, we'll let you know. All items will be checked out to you for easy pickup. Read or watch what you want. No book report necessary!

Book Bundles are already a hit with patrons. Said one, "You all are SO appreciated! Thank you for supporting my habit!" Another responded with, "Thank you so much. Grateful for your efforts to continue serving the community during these weird and trying times."

    Website Redesign Preview

The City's website redesign team has been hard at work for months, studying analytics, meeting with departments, and working with consultants to create a new website that incorporates citizen needs with UX (user experience) best practices. Here is an image (no clickable links) of what the Library's design will look like. The next phase of the process is user focus groups. The target for implementation is early 2021.

    Nailed It!

Teens who registered for the Halloween-themed Nailed It! received a kit to make skeleton-adorned cupcakes. They showed off their baking prowess (or not!) with Vanessa Perger via Zoom on October 24. There will be a winter version for teens in December.

    Halloween Seek & Find

We weren't able to host the annual Haunted Library this year, but we still brought our spooky friends out for a visit. Throughout the month, Frankenstein and his monster, Helen (the Library's oldest librarian), and several other creepy crawlies were peeking out windows that faced the sidewalks. Staff produced a "Seek & Find" list to make sure you found them all, too.

One patron emailed to say, "The Halloween setups by the windows were great. Thank everyone for their efforts to keep things fun."

Fall is gorgeous in Camas, and an especially good time for photoshoots around the Camas Library. Some took the ghoulish accouterments in stride (see Anya, above, in one of her senior photos). For Amber Korte, however, she didn't imagine the wedding of her dreams would have photos with creatures from her nightmares. So, we removed them. She later wrote to us, "My name is Amber Korte. I got married on the 17th and your staff was kind enough to move a Halloween decoration for us so that we could take photos outside of your beautiful library. I just wanted to say thank you again for accommodating my odd request and share a couple of photos. Stay safe!

During these trying times, we were happy to help make someone's special day a little less...monstrous.

    Scary Story Contest

Typically we partner with the elementary schools for our Scary Story Contest, and the winners read their winning stories at the Saturday Spooktacular during Haunted Happenings week. Since we weren't able to have a big party, we took the contest online and opened it to all ages. We had 85 entries and some amazing talent! Winners from each age category included:

-Madison Teater, 5th grade, Grass Valley Elementary
-Isabella Eckman, 6th grade, Liberty Middle School
-Zayah Shore, 9th grade, Camas High School
    -Lara Atalla, Adults 18+

Each winner received a $25 gift card to Powell's Books, thanks to funding from the Friends and Foundation of the Camas Library (FFCL).

Friends and Foundation of the Camas Library

2020 has been a tough year for fundraising. We had one book sale before the rest were canceled due to COVID-19. September's flood took out books that could potentially be sold in other locations or online. The FFCL's only source of revenue has been online donations.

Already donated? There are more ways to help. Follow the FFCL on Facebook. Share when there are online fundraisers. Recruit a friend to volunteer for an FFCL subcommittee. We can rebuild!
