This Week in Worship

This coming Sunday is the Eighth Sunday after Pentecost in our church year.  Please be with us and find out what happens when you steal your brother's wife and your niece, who is now your daughter, marries her uncle, your brother, now her husband.  And you thought the Bible didn't have any good soap operas in it!

Sunday School - July 15

This Sunday we will be working on our Fall Talent Show as we kick off our annual Sunday School campaign.  We will be raising money all year to help buy school supplies for kids who can't afford them.  Please come join us at 9:00 a.m.  And remember, parents are always invited!

Seminary Internship Possibility

We have been approached by the Synod to consider having a seminary intern this coming academic year.  Dawn Bennett is a recent graduate of Vanderbilt Divinity School and is a candidate for ordination in the ELCA.  She is doing her Lutheran studies through Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN.

She would work under my supervision and along side me as we all seek to do and be gospel in East Nashville.  Her work would include all the various aspects of pastoral ministry but with a particular focus on community outreach and church growth.  

While there are various costs involved that are being covered by the seminary and Synod, Memorial would be responsible for $10,000 dollars toward her stipend.  So we, in essence, get a full-time pastor in training for one year for that amount.

Dawn will be with us this Sunday, July 15 for a meet and greet time after worship.  We invite everyone to stay and get to know her and ask any questions you may have about the internship program and its impact on our church.  Then on Sunday, July 22 we will have a congregational meeting right after worship to decide if this particular opportunity is right for our church.

Songwriter's Gathering August 11

Come join us for our next Songwriter’s Gathering on Saturday, August 11, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall downstairs.  You are welcome to render a tune or two or simply come and enjoy listening to the great music.  Beverages and light snacks will be provided.

Cleaning God's House

Since we no longer have our former tenants cleaning our church, we are trying out a period of "clean as you go."  We are asking everyone to pitch in when you can.  If you have a few minutes and see something that needs to be cleaned, "get 'er done!"  Ask if you need help finding any supplies.
