Best Wishes for Christmas and the New Year

The Last Chance Hotel Team

As we reach the end of another year, we look back and reflect on the rollercoaster of rescue and the building of our Sanctuary. From destructive stormy January weather to sun and blue skies in Summer: from despair in May when the team faced 8 dogs in danger, to joy as yet another precious life was saved and enhanced; from constant worry as financial resources dwindled, to heartfelt gratitude as kind, generous people came forward to help when we needed it the most.

We have much to be proud of. The Sanctuary provides shelter and safety for many animals; hundreds of injured or vulnerable bats have been nurtured here and released back into the wild, and of course, many dogs have come into the care of our super fosterers, and gone on to find loving forever homes.

The hard work of our amazing volunteers, and the encouragement of our supporters sustains the team through the bad days. Last Chance Hotel would not be what it is today without that vital energy, generosity of spirit, and sense of community.

Thank you everyone, for caring.

New Arrivals

Jayden and Nola

These two beauties had been in kennels for months after their owner sadly passed away. A bonded pair, they must have been so confused and upset at their changed circumstances. Jayden and Nola were urgently in need of a foster space as the kennels would not keep them any longer, and LCH stepped in to offer that space. They are now safe in a fab foster home, where they have settled in without any qualms and their foster mum doesn't have a bad word to say about them. As we go to press, Jayden and Nola have a meet and greet in the pipeline.

You can find more information on our other dogs by visiting our website pages: for foster or for adoption. Also our Facebook page.

Waggy Tail Endings

Bernard and Percy have been with us for a long time, waiting for the right person to come along and offer them a forever sofa. Another bonded pair, they are both getting on in years and they don't need long walks, - a large garden is just fine. Finally, their dream has come true, and they will be spending Christmas in their new home. We wish them and their new family all the very best.

We all love a 'failed foster', where failing brings a smile... Do you remember Blu, who featured in last month's newsletter? Well, he landed on his paws in a super foster home, where he could relax and chill, and not long afterwards they decided that he had settled in so well that he should stay.... Here he is snuggled up with his new pal Colin, serving as a comfy chin rest for him.

LCH Christmas Auction

What a fabulous result! Over £4000 raised from this year's Christmas Auction, a massive endeavour organised by Carla Whiting. This was the biggest ever online auction, with almost 600 lots, so many fantastic donations from supporters and local businesses, truly inspiring! Huge thanks to everyone who contributed, whether by donating items, or bidding on them, or both.... and special thanks to Carla and her trusty helpers Heidi, Kd Kelly, Helen and Janet, for all your hard work.

Christmas Day scenario?

Still time to give a shoebox!

The fab Kd Kelly of The Dog House, Helston has initiated another Christmas Shoebox Appeal, for rescue dogs, with various drop off points around Cornwall. If you would like to contribute, pop along to our events website page for more details.

Christmas Tree Match Fund Appeal

Christmas decorations at LCH are going up; this is how it looks at the moment.... thank you to everyone who has made it look so festive already. Personal donations will help us finish the tree and set even more presents out, and because LCH has been NICE this year, Santa (aka two fab supporters) is match funding 50% of your special gift (up to £500). You can even see everything as it is added. Wrapped presents will be specially labelled with your name or initial, so please remember to tell us who the recipient is, e.g 'cats', 'dogs' or individual names for the medication gifts.

Please vote for us....only a few days left!

Grants and awards from corporations are extremely valuable, and we have been lucky to benefit in the past from this type of assistance. Quite often, all it takes is garnering enough votes from our supporters, a couple of minutes to register a nomination on a website. There are just a few days left of the Ecclesiastical Insurance 12 Days of Giving Awards, which ends at midnight on 19th December. If you have the time to spare, please click the link below, you will need our charity number which is 1157684. Thank you!

Shoeboxes and Fun

Grateful thanks to everyone who has so kindly taken the time to put these extra special presents together, we are completely overwhelmed by your generosity!

These pics were taken at the dog show yesterday, and don’t even show a quarter of them... A number of shoeboxes were distributed to foster dogs who were at the show, and others will be delivered to our fosters throughout Cornwall who couldn't be there, as well as other needy pooches. Christmas is traditionally a time of giving, and we were humbled to see how the appeal was embraced by so many, with donations coming in from all over Cornwall. Massive thanks to Kd Kelly of The Dog House, Helston, for organising this, the many people who acted as collection points, and of course everyone who donated. We really cannot thank you enough.

Merry Christmas to you all!

Christmas Fun Dog Show

Our Christmas Fun Dog Show was a brilliant afternoon of joy, beautiful dogs, and a lot of laughter. Thank you to everyone who came along and made it a fab day for all. Our Best in Show was the lovely Yani, a 6 month old Whippet handled and owned by Karen Gallie who was shocked by her win! And Pippin took Reserve, an LCH rescue owned by Laura Crouch, a worthy reserve winner due to celebrate his 1st Gotcha anniversary the following day.

Thank you to everyone again, what a great day!

Thank you!

Saddle up

A heartfelt thankyou for the generous donation of 4 quality saddles and girths from Gilly Lucas in Holsworthy. We will be auctioning these alongside other horse items of tack in the New Year.

These will go towards vet bills in particular for Casper and Walter.

Thank you furry much!

A massive thank you to Lesley Rickard for the donations to the Last Chance Hotel foster cats. Lesley recently celebrated her birthday and asked for donations of cat food and litter.

Gratefully received here by David, Reginald, April, FreDerick and Squid who said they will share with all the others.

You gave to The Big Give

The Big Give incentive at the beginning of December was a resounding success thanks to the many very generous people who donated to this special nationwide online fundraiser. Grateful thanks to you all, your donations reached our £1200 target and this will now be doubled by 100% match funding. A wonderful boost at a hard time of year.

Facebook Fundraisers!

A big thank you to one of our fab fosterers Karen Pidwell for thinking of LCH for her birthday, and asking her friends to donate to help with our vet bill instead of giving her presents.

Facebook fundraisers are a super way to raise funds for our animals in need, and we are always very grateful to those who turn their special day into something special for LCH.

Bat accommodation

WOW !!!! Thank you to everyone who sent us some new bat housing... this is fantastic, huge thanks to you all!

Polly Joke Poppies

The proceeds from the sale of this beautiful painting were donated to LCH by local artist Rachael Bygrove. Thank you so much Rachael for your generosity, you are a true animal lover, and we are very grateful for your support. Rachael has another painting for sale in aid of LCH here:

Did you Know?

We have a NEW LAST CHANCE HOTEL FACEBOOK PAGE, which aims to keep you updated with all the latest news on the dogs and much more. Please click on the link and ‘like’ our page.

We have other Facebook groups: LAST CHANCE HOTEL AUCTION runs auctions throughout the year, with loads of fab stuff up for grabs, raising vital funds for our vet bill.

Our Amazon Wishlist, by which you can purchase specific goodies and have them delivered to us, is a lovely way to send a present for our animals! The link will take you straight there for a browse of all sorts of goodies from toys and chews to harnesses, coats and lovely food.

There are also ways to help raise funds for us whilst you’re shopping online, which don’t cost you a penny. Easyfundraising is a scheme whereby you can shop at many popular retailers such as John Lewis, Marks & Spencer, and they will donate a small percentage (usually 1%) of your order to the charity of your choice, with no extra expense to you. Giveasyoulive is a similar scheme, with over 4000 retailers involved.

AMAZON run their own scheme called Amazon Smile, please use this if you shop with them.

Like all charities, we depend almost entirely upon the generosity of our wonderful supporters. We have several ways in which monetary donations can be made: PayPal is easy and convenient for the many people who hold an account.

JustGiving provides another way of donating and also an opportunity for individuals to fundraise for us through sponsorship of a personal challenge. In addition, it allows us to claim back the Gift Aid part of the donation which can add vital pennies.

If neither of these methods are suitable, then we are more than happy to accept donations via direct bank transfer using the following information:

Last Chance Hotel
Sort code: 20-67-19
Account no: 73797503
(Do drop us a quick email with your details so we can say thanks!)

or cheques, if sent to our Treasurer, at the address given at the bottom of this newsletter.

These and other ways to donate, such as direct to our vets, are listed in detail on our website donations page.

Legacies are also a vital source of support and we now have a dedicated page on our website which provides information on legacies and about leaving a gift in your Will to Last Chance Hotel. All donations enable us to continue our work in rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming, and legacies provide a future for the charity, as well as giving us further opportunity to educate, inform and promote responsible pet ownership.

Thank you from Team LCH and all the animals!
