Dear Colleagues, Partners and Friends,

We've all experienced the strain that higher fuel costs are having on our budgets. In the City of Rowlett, Texas we can see that many are turning to public transportation, as ridership using the Dallas Area /Rapid Transit (DART) system continues to grow to surpass pre-pandemic levels. You may be surprised to know that Rowlett is among the highest users of the Go-Link on demand service!  This newsletter shares insights regarding the robust public transportation network supporting economic growth and jobs, and serving Rowlett citizens and businesses. 

The benefits of public transportation extend beyond the workplace to other essential destinations that support employee's overall quality of life, offering access to health care, retail, recreation, education opportunities and more. Transportation is key in addressing barriers to economic opportunity in Rowlett and the Dallas Fort Worth region. This mobility helps shape land use and development patterns, generate jobs and enable economic growth, and support public policies regarding energy use, air quality and carbon emissions. 

As part of the connectivity and transportation benefits accessible to Rowlett residents and businesses, the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Light-Rail network is important for continued investment in our city and the Dallas-Forth Worth region. This 93-mile light rail is the longest system in North America.

Downtown Rowlett DART Station

Rowlett is GoLink's second highest ridership location! GoLink is DART's on-demand service. Using a variety of vehicles and service providers, GoLink delivers transportation services within a designated zone. Riders can book an on-demand trip for work, run an errand or connect to DART buses and trains. GoLink provides curb-to-curb, door-to-door service within a designated zone - all on the rider's schedule. It is a tremendous transportation resource serving Rowlett residents, businesses, and workforce. Nature and History Converge

Lake Ray Hubbard is central to Rowlett's identity and accordingly, it figures prominently in the adornment of the Downtown Rowlett DART Station. The Downtown Rowlett Station features architectural design reflecting the community's distinctive personality. 

The lake theme is woven throughout - from the cattail stalks depicted in the columns to the shade of blue embedded in the walkway that "flows" through a plaza area between the rail platform and the nearby bus bays and park and ride lot.

Artwork abounds across 35 undulating panels, which also echo the motion of water. Colorful art walls flow between the rail station and bus bays depicting images of Rowlett's community life and history. The scenes depicted range from sketches of the surrounding landscape and fauna, to portraits of the prominent families that settled the area, to family activities that are part of the fabric of current-day Rowlett. The installation also features quotes from celebrated authors Alex Haley and Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr.
