WorkSafeNB is proud to support Candace Carnahan’s Step Up Your Safety e-learning program, an initiative designed to help New Brunswick high school students enter the workforce with a strong and lasting safety mindset. Launched in September, the program is an engaging digital learning experience that builds awareness and encourages safe choices at work and in everyday life.

Each year, approximately 750 young workers are injured on the job in New Brunswick; injuries that are often preventable with the right education. Offered to New Brunswick high schools in collaboration with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, Step Up Your Safety helps students see how physical and psychological safety connects to their everyday experiences and future workplaces.

WorkSafeNB’s PlaySafeNB helps youth sports organizations create safer, more positive experiences for young athletes. It’s one more way we’re making New Brunswick the safest place to work, and play.

We believe safety is more than rules, it’s a mindset. By investing in physical and psychological safety in sport, we’re helping young New Brunswickers grow.

PlaySafeNB is a grant program offering up to $5,000 per organization (with $30,000 total funding in 2026) to support projects that reduce physical and psychological safety risks in youth sport. Made possible through the historic WorkSafeNB Performance Refund returned to eligible New Brunswick employers in 2024, including WorkSafeNB, the grant reflects a commitment to reinvesting in the province’s communities, and the future workforce.

Our annual Focus on Safety video competition is back for New Brunswick high school students! Help spread the word and empower tomorrow’s workforce. We're challenging high school students to create a two-minute original video sharing the importance of working safely! 

New Brunswick Prizes:

1st place: $1,000 + $1,000 for school

2nd place: $750 + $750 for school

3rd place: $500 + $500 for school

And here's the exciting part – win first place in New Brunswick, and you stand a chance to win an additional $1,000 in the national CCOHS contest, plus $1,000 for your school.

This competition is open to all New Brunswick high school students, and the deadline for submissions is April 1, 2026.

Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) Awareness Day is Feb. 29. As the only “non‑repetitive” day of the year, it’s the ideal time to raise awareness about repetitive strain injuries (Feb. 28 in non‑leap years). Led by the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS), the day highlights how repetitive movements, awkward postures and overexertion can lead to injury over time. CCOHS offers free posters, fact sheets and tools to help workplaces recognize risks and take preventive action.

To support prevention efforts in New Brunswick, WorkSafeNB provides practical resources on musculoskeletal injuries, including ergonomic guidance, safe manual handling information and stretching resources to help promote safer, healthier workplaces.
