The GSS, in collaboration with the UBC Food Hub, is hosting its first cooking workshop on October 16th. No need to bring ingredients, just sign up and get ready to cook. During the workshop, you'll learn to create balanced meals, explore healthy eating benefits, and prepare a dish to enjoy. Plus, you'll take home a recipe to make affordable, nutritious meals in your own kitchen.

Call for "Human Books" |
|
The GSS is excited to announce its new Graduate Human Library. This is an initiative that creates a space for open dialogue and learning. Instead of borrowing books, participants "borrow" real people who share their knowledge and insights on a range of topics. Sign up now to be recruited as a Human Book. Share your unique expertise, make connections, and get a $25 gift card! Your knowledge and lived experience are invaluable resources. By becoming a Human Book, you contribute to the diversity of thought and experience within our community, and gain fresh insights through collaborative learning. Starting in October, these sessions will take place at the Graduate Life Centre, Thea Koerner House.

Are you in need of financial support?
|
|
The GSS has set up the Graduate Student Financial Aid (GSFA), a fund to support graduate students experiencing unforeseen circumstances. This may include, but is not limited to: living expenses, prescription medications not covered by MSP, Pharmacare, and the AMS/GSS Health and Dental Plan, and the UBC Leave of Absence fee. GSFA will not cover tuition and other school fees.

GSS Housing Security Aid (HSA) fund |
|
The Housing Security Aid (HSA), is a newly approved fund provided by the GSS specifically to cover housing-related challenges. The purpose of the HSA is to provide housing related support to graduate students who are facing housing insecurity or challenges.
Funding examples:
- Rent/Security deposit assistance (including rent increases by landlord)
- Moving-related expenses
- Assistance with temporary accommodations
- Assistance with replacement of damaged items in the student’s units which could necessitate fines by landlord

Advocacy Services by GSS
|
|
Dealing with difficult situations as a graduate student at UBC can be challenging and exhausting. Whether a student is facing financial, housing, academic or supervisory issues, knowing what to do, seeking support, and where can be very confusing. If you are in this situation, there is no need to fret. The GSS is right here to support you.
Our Advocates are uniquely positioned to help you navigate these challenges and many more by providing answers to your questions through peer support, external advocacy and resource referrals. Our team is also actively working on new policy recommendations and proposing amendments to existing UBC policies that would benefit the graduate student community of UBC.

Our mission is to provide a vibrant and inclusive community that prioritizes wellness through physical, mental, and social health.
We are excited to welcome new execs to join our team as some of our current members are graduating. Open positions include Vice President, Communications Officer, and Treasurer. We aim to host events every 1-2 months, ranging from casual to more structured event formats to accommodate the busy student lives of our members and our exec team.
