1. Low satisfaction with social care

If you were shocked to hear that public satisfaction with the NHS had declined to an all-time low of 24%, the situation with social care is even worse. Just 13% of respondents professed themselves satisfied with social care services.

The King’s Fund and Nuffield Trust carried out the health and social care sections of the British Social Attitudes survey for 2023 and found three key reasons for the discontent.

4. OHMI Connect

Thanks to a National Lottery project grant from Arts Council England, OHMI (One-Handed Musical Instrument Trust) has developed and launched an online resource which will enable musicians to identify the instruments and equipment that suit their individual needs.

OHMI Connect provides disabled musicians with a series of choices so they can decide how to progress their musical journey and with which instrument.

5. Accessible outdoor holidays

A significant proportion of the UK population has access needs - but accessible outdoor holidays are not as readily available as they should be.

Disability-led inclusive marketing agency Purple Goat has been engaged by UK outdoor accommodation booking platform Pitchup. com to help them make the outdoor accommodation sector more accessible for the disability community.

6. Disability arts at Venice Biennale

Often described as the Olympics of the art world, the Venice Biennale has been running since 1895, and is the must-visit international festival of contemporary art. 2024 sees Shape Arts presenting a major new show of disability arts.

Crip Arte Spazio is a huge, joyous, and exuberant celebration showcasing the dynamism, wit, and grandeur of the Disability Arts Movement (DAM). The DAM aligned art with the fight for rights, broke barriers, and ultimately affected changes in UK law, while making great art about doing so.
