Dear USET/USET SPF Family,
The USET Office of Tribal Public Health (OTPH) is committed to sharing pertinent public health information. Our Chronic Disease Prevention team invites you to the upcoming GHWIC 1903 webinars providing resources and information regarding health promotion and disease prevention using traditional knowledge, community engagement, and culturally relevant programs, resources and educational materials. These quarterly webinars spread valuable information to Tribal clinics and communities by exploring initiatives promoting physical activity/nutrition, commercial tobacco prevention, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease and stroke prevention.
The next webinars will feature Indigenous speakers who are subject matter experts in education, health promotion, and disease prevention among Native American communities. They will share innovative strategies that provide a cultural approach to chronic disease prevention, management, and control along with helpful health promotion practices. By having these conversations, the long-term goal is to spread awareness around many chronic diseases and in turn, reduce high rates of disease such as prediabetes and diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, oral disease, and other chronic disease risk factors and conditions.
Those two webinars will take place on:
- September 19, 2024, from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm Central/2:00 pm - 3:00 pm Eastern, with Dr. Charlene Ramirez discussing “Supporting the Indigenous Breastfeeding Family”. Please register here.
Who should attend: Public health staff, medical practitioners, health educators, diabetes coordinators, lactation consultants, and doulas.
- September 24, 2024, from 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm Central/2:00 pm - 3:30 pm Eastern with Ms. Hayley Brezeale discussing “A Taste of Food Sovereignty”, part 2! Please register here.
