I have happy news to share with you! I got a promotion to Program Manager, about 4+ months into my job at On Deck. This is something I'm really excited and proud of. It's hard to believe that a year ago I was a complete outsider in tech. By digging deep, building projects and surrounding myself with other amazing people, I've grown so much. As always, very grateful and hope to help open doors for others.
What are some easy ways to open doors for others?
Amplify their good work
Offer career advice
Help connect amazing people with jobs that are a great fit
Write them a recommendation
Send interesting opportunities their way
Help friends with pay negotiation
With gratitude, Janel

Apple & Newsletter Tracking A well-balanced piece on what Apple's Mail Protection means for newsletters. I shared my thoughts with WIRED UK and believe that Apple's initiative does harm the newsletter industry. Open & click rates do matter a lot to me while I write BrainPint as they help me figure out what content resonates with all of you. I never dive into individual subscriber data (like what links you click or what time you open - that's creepy!) but the aggregated data does help me learn what content you enjoy. I optimize for usefulness here at BrainPint, and will never use tracking data to spy on you.

How To Ask Useful Questions Asking useful questions is a skill, and it requires practice. "If you want useful answers, learn to ask better questions. In most cases, you'll need to tailor the form of the question to the type of information you're seeking."
Asking for Clarification: "Based on our conversation about A, it sounds like B is the case. Is that correct?"
Asking for Help: ""I'm trying to A, and I'm having trouble. So far, I've tried B with result C, and D with result E. Now I'm stuck. Any guidance?"
Asking for Advice: "I'm working on A. My priorities are B, C, and D. I'm considering E, but I'm not sure it's the best option. If you have a moment, I'd appreciate your thoughts. If not, no worries. Thanks!"
