Again I make an excuse for a somewhat abbreviated "Fridays" message - I spent most of the week at the main office following our annual staff retreat on Monday. It's always fun to spend some time out there with the rest of the crew!

Today's masthead is a misty soft view from the Pennsylvania's high point at Mount Davis in the Forbes State Forest. Mike Mann included several pictures in his post to the private Pennsylvania state parks and forests Book of Faces. Check them out on the dedicated page he created for the high point.

Retreat to a Bird Blind

A First-Hand Look at the Michaux Bird Blind

A field trip is always built into our annual staff retreat agenda. This year, since we were at Pine Grove Furnace State Park we were within striking distance of one of two new accessible bird blinds in the Bunker Hill Farm area of the Michaux State Forest. Note that the accessible trail has yet to be installed.

To quote Brian's recent Facebook post:

Thanks to the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's Outdoor Fund, work has started on an ADA bird blind at the Bunker Hill track of Michaux State Forest District! The ADA work complements the planting of trees and wildflowers by volunteers and PPFF with the support of a Giant Food Healthy Planet grant through Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful and contributions from the Market Square Presbyterian Church.

Intrepid campground hosts Joe and Marci installed some substantial new trail signs in the Tuscarora State Forest creating a loop trail at Fowlers Hollow State Park last weekend. Both agree it was a beautiful day to be in the forest schlepping big signs up a hill!

There are trees to be planted there as well - thanks to a Healthy Plant Grant from Keep PA Beautiful and Giant and ongoing contributions to the Living Gifts fund for native plants.

As we move into the holiday season, we hope you'll think of this fund and other Living Gifts as potential green and growing ways to honor friends and family. Find them in our store!

Nolde Forest Environmental Education Center

A quick reminder that the Day of the Dead/Dia de los Muertos celebrations at Nolde Forest this weekend do require registration in advance. As of this writing, slots remained open!
