November news from Lyssa Chiavari

The Calm After the Storm

Hi, ! I hope you've been having a good autumn. (Or spring, depending on where you live!) Things are always a little quiet after a book launch, and that's definitely been the case for me. I've been taking some time to write and to read. I should have some news about my next book, New World, soon! In the meantime, here's what I've been up to, plus some news from a few of my friends. :-)

Love Libraries?

Have you wanted to read my books, but don't have infinite disposable income? I feel you! But did you know that there's an easy way to read my books for free? Ask your local library! All of my books published through Snowy Wings Publishing (The Iamos Trilogy and Perchance to Dream) are available to schools and public libraries in the U.S. through Brodart Book Company. The ebooks are also available to libraries via Overdrive and Bibliotheca. So no matter what your preferred format is, all you need to do is ask your local librarian! (Many libraries also have a form on their websites to allow you to request a title.) This helps both you and me, since the more libraries carry my book, the more young readers will have access to these worlds. Thanks for sharing the library love!

#TurtleWriters Unite! 🐢

I usually don't participate in NaNoWriMo (apart from treating it as FiYoCrapMo), because I know my limits: I max out at about 25,000 a month; any more than that and I wind up with pneumonia or something. (Not hyperbole!) But since I'm already in the middle of writing anyway, I figured I may as well join in the fun even though I'm not aiming to "win" (reaching 50,000 words in one month). I coincidentally found a group of writers on Twitter called #TurtleWriters: people who write slow but know that slow and steady wins the race. That's my philosophy! (And apparently it really can win the race, in a non-metaphorical way!) So I'm looking forward to hanging out with other writers this month and getting a good amount of writing done as well. If you are participating in NaNo, best of luck to you!

October's Reads

I spent most of October re-reading one of my favorite series, the Adaptation duology by Malinda Lo. This is a fun series for fans of the X-Files as well as for any Roswell conspiracy theorist, and I think fans of my writing would definitely love this series. After I finished those, I read Thief of Hearts by Bridget Essex. I had read this book years ago when it was originally published as Cage the Darlings. It's been fleshed out a bit, and I enjoyed the additions, particularly getting to know Merle a bit better! This is recommended for anyone who likes original fairy tales with a sweet romance.

Words From Friends

(New Releases & Deals From Lyssa's Author Friends!)

Sere from the Green by Lauren Jankowski

There is a race that lives among humans, unbeknownst to them, called shape shifters: those that can shift from human to animal at will. Like the gods of ancient myth, they guard the world... Isis believes she's just an ordinary human until the day she photographs a murder scene for her job. When the body disappears from her photographs, Isis is determined to solve the mystery. Her investigation uncovers answers about her own past and sets her on a journey that will change her life forever.

This urban fantasy series starter from one of my best author friends will appeal to anyone who loves shape shifters, mythology, and a diverse cast of characters! The first book is just $0.99 for a limited time, so grab it now!
