On 12 August 2024 at 22:44UTC, the Master of a merchant vessel reported an explosion in close proximity to the vessel, 63NM southwest of Hodeidah, Yemen.
Later, at 01:40UTC, the Master reported that a small craft was observed in the vicinity acting suspiciously and flashing lights towards the vessel. At 03:13UTC, the Master further reported a second explosion in close proximity to the vessel.
The Master then reported at 04:05 UTC that the vessel was attacked by an Uncrewed Surface Vehicle (USV), which was successfully disabled. No further details were given regarding the disabling of the USV.
The Master has confirmed that both the vessel and crew are safe, and the vessel is continuing to its next port of call.
On Tuesday, a separate ship located 97NM northwest of Hodeidah also reported an explosion in its vicinity. That vessel and crew has also been reported as safe and proceeding to the next port of call.
All vessels in the area are advised to proceed with caution and to report any suspicious activities to the UKMTO.
