Sermon On The Mount

A Blessed Life

A Blessed Life

It’s easy to say we are blessed when all seems to be going our way, but what about when it’s not? We might think we are being punished, or part of some cosmic game, or maybe God has left the building. We need to understand what it truly means to be blessed. In Matthew 5:3-12, Jesus proclaims blessings in situations that seem more about being broken than being blessed. Some statements are about putting others first or about being persecuted. These all sound like the opposite of being blessed. None of it sounds like things are going our way. But remember that this world is not our home. We are only passing through, and meanwhile, be recruiting others into the kingdom.

We can’t sacrifice an eternal reward for temporary comfort, or be surprised when life is hard.  During struggles, we must focus on what we can control and count it all joy. Celebrate those moments of joy.

We are exiles in Babylon (a place that defines evil as good). But while we are here, we have a role to play. We are to build God’s kingdom. It’s a role that is often very difficult but results in true blessings.

This World Is Not My Home

Don't sacrifice an eternal reward for temporary comfort, or be surprised when life is hard.

Remeber your home, find your purpose, and live for God's kingdom.
