Today's Bible Study Lesson
“Make a Joyful Noise”
Aim: Understand
why
and how God is to be worshiped, as found in Psalm 100;
Appreciate
that
God is worthy to be praised, and Create
a
psalm of praise for the Lord.
Background:
Psalm 100
Bible Lesson:
Psalm 100
Memory
Verses:
“Know ye that the LORD he [is] God: [it is] he [that]
hath made us, and not we ourselves; [we are] his people, and the
sheep of his pasture.” Psalm 100:3 KJV
Some
Highlights:
-
The
Book of Psalms, the nineteen book of our Bible, has David as a
primary author; however, there are also other contributors to the
composition of the 150 Psalms included in this Old Testament Book.
The Book of Psalms is a great collection of songs and prayers. There
are expressions of despair, praise, worship, and confessions
to God. This Book has provided
comfort to
many during
times
of suffering and distress. The collection of Psalms are actually
divided into five books. Our Study for today, Psalm 100 is included
in Book 4 (Psalms 90:1 – 106:48). Psalm 100 is a Psalm of Praise
and
Thanksgiving.
.
-
During
athletic events the home crowd is enjoined to make “Some Noise”
when the home team has the ball or is defending against an
opponent. The author exhorts all the earth with the reader to
acknowledge
God with joy and enthusiasm! Next because of God’s greatness, the
author says the reader is to serve or worship the Lord with a happy
heart. No doubt this happiness is in appreciation of God’s
goodness, mercy, and grace that is extended so graciously to His
creation. Humankind
is the crown of all creation and was given dominion over all that
God created. Singing can come spontaneously during a celebration of
a
great
achievement or a
wonderful
event or the
reception of a precious gift.
An
expression of joy
comes
from a soul which has been touched with kindness or unexpected
benefit(s)
that
one receives
from God.
Certainly, the new mercies and grace which we receive as we open our
eyes to a new day should bring a feeling of joy and deep
appreciation to our Father God.
-
We
have no recourse but to acknowledge that the Lord is God, all
powerful, all knowing, and at all places at one time. He
is One
who has no beginning or ending! God created all that we see and all
that we do not see. God started with nothing and created everything
and everybody. We as God’s creation played no role in our coming
on the scene of time or in our continued existence. Everything is in
God’s Hands. If we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, we
become God’s people. The author compares us to sheep in a
shepherd’s pasture. Sheep require loving care to survive and to
flourish. Sheep don’t own pastures, but are
led
by
their shepherd
to his
pasture
where
they can graze and enjoy cool water. Certainly,
we look to God daily for our provisions and for
protection.
-
Because
of the provisions and protection from our God, we must come before
Him with thanksgiving and
with
praise on our lips in appreciation for all that He has done, is
doing, and will do for us. God is worthy of our highest praise! Our
reasonable expression of appreciation is to give reverence to His
Holy Name and to be obedient to His Will. Scripture is clear that
God desires obedience more than sacrifice.
-
Why
does God provide for and protect His children? Because He is Good
and all the time He is Good! Because He loves us and this love was
exhibited with the gift of Jesus, His Only Begotten Son, Who
was sacrificed
as payment for our sins! God’s
love, mercy, and faithfulness is everlasting which means that it is
for past generations, this generation, and generations to come.
God’s Inexhaustible Generosity gives us a reason to praise Him
daily and
to offer
our expressions of thanksgiving to Him for what He has done (Jesus
Christ providing the opportunity of Eternal Life), what He is doing
(Holy Spirit teaching, comforting, and guiding us),
and what He will do (Receive us into His Presence in Heaven).
Take
Aways:
-
Joyous songs of praise to our
God are expressions of worship and thanksgiving for His many
benefits.
-
Our God is worthy of our
highest praise and most sincere worship! He is our Creator and Sustainer!
-
We are completely and totally
dependent upon God for everything and we must express our
appreciation at all times!
