Last week was the first week I missed BrainPint after more than 40 weeks of sending it consistently. Decided to take a break as I've been really busy with work & my side projects. It's good to take a mental break sometimes to prevent burnout. I'm back with an amazing collection of reads, tools and recommendations! We're covering thinking like a kid, personal advisory boards, an incredible story of a woman who never quit and more.
P.S. Podcast Operating System, my latest product, has launched! Thanks for all your support!. If you know friends who are creating a podcast this year, do help refer them to it (or even better, buy it as a belated Valentine's gift!)
Thanks for reading, as always.
With gratitude, Janel
The Key to Being Contrarian: Think Like a Kid "World-class performance requires a completely different way of thinking". This is something I believe in. To perform at high levels, you need to be able to look a few steps ahead and play the game differently.
This article meanders quite a fair bit, but is a worthwhile read, especially for the parts that the author highlight in bold. Three things that really resonated:
Be open to new ways of seeing things. "Some of the greatest ideas come at the intersection of two seemingly different concepts—what some call “cross-pollination"
"Being contrarian shouldn’t be the aim; it should be a byproduct of thinking independently."
If you don't let yourself wander and play, you are likely to accept "good enough" because you might know know what "great" looks like
Don't ever lose the childlike wonder, and never stop playing. Follow your curiosity wherever it leads you and you will never go wrong.
Honing your Superpower: Excel with Personal Advisory Boards I like the concept of a Personal Board of Directors. What's that? An informal group of people who understand your professional goals and can help you develop as a leader. While this article positions this as something executives need, I think all of us need a sounding board in our lives.
