The Key to Being Contrarian: Think Like a Kid "World-class performance requires a completely different way of thinking". This is something I believe in. To perform at high levels, you need to be able to look a few steps ahead and play the game differently.
This article meanders quite a fair bit, but is a worthwhile read, especially for the parts that the author highlight in bold. Three things that really resonated:
- Be open to new ways of seeing things. "Some of the greatest ideas come at the intersection of two seemingly different concepts—what some call “cross-pollination"
- "Being contrarian shouldn’t be the aim; it should be a byproduct of thinking independently."
- If you don't let yourself wander and play, you are likely to accept "good enough" because you might know know what "great" looks like
Don't ever lose the childlike wonder, and never stop playing. Follow your curiosity wherever it leads you and you will never go wrong.
Honing your Superpower: Excel with Personal Advisory Boards I like the concept of a Personal Board of Directors. What's that? An informal group of people who understand your professional goals and can help you develop as a leader. While this article positions this as something executives need, I think all of us need a sounding board in our lives.
What profiles are key?
- Fans - They want to see you grow & cheer you on!
- Sponsors - They can unlock the doors to the next stage in your career (think of people that are one or two steps ahead of you)
- Critics - Devil's advocates an ability to provide frank feedback on areas others might find difficult to broach
From Pakistan to Silicon Valley: Sidra Qasim's Unlikely Journey to Building a Shoe Empire An inspiring story that shows how Atoms' Sidra Qasim broke cultural norms, and persevered beyond reason to achieve her dream. I love reading underdog stories. This is a great inspiration to people who have been told "no" way too many times. "We all live for the idea that we should be able to achieve our dreams and the things we want to do in our life."
