According to KALPA's vision and philosophy, the inner force of art is presented across a group of artworks ranging from striking contemporary earthy canvases, functional vases and abstract sculptures in stoneware, volcanic clay and porcelain. Evocative and textural surfaces, references to the natural realm and ancestral shapes live in the elegant context of Molteni&C design and emerge as accents of colour and form, capturing the visitors’ eye.
Visible on Patricia Shone’s Erosion Jars stoneware vessels are memories of a distant and epic landscape for her work encompasses the core of the Isle of Skye’s dramatic scenery, the artist’s birthplace, reflecting the land’s ancient geological formation and erosion. Elegantly nestled in a wall library, is Sabine Pagliarulo’s maternal and pure Second Chance sculpture in white stoneware and porcelain, releasing both energy and tension from the clay itself, as well as alluding to a sentiment of rebirth and protection. On another side of the room, a majestic sculpted vase in volcanic black clay by Jojo Corväiá conveys the artist’s appreciation for irregular forms, instinct and natural processes of expression.
