In this issue we focus on leadership regarding our school response to the climate crisis. We share with you a new  book to help your school on its journey, and a new game for pupils. And we showcase the fantastic work already being done in South Yorkshire schools.

On behalf of Schools Climate Education South Yorkshire, journalism students Mmesomachukwu C Muogilim and Jasmine Faulkner from Sheffield University visited Porter Croft Primary School and Tapton secondary school to find out what students and staff are doing to tackle the climate crisis. They have produced two truly inspiring short videos for SCESY:

A new School Street to improve road safety and air quality means traffic is now restricted outside Westways Primary School on selected roads at the start and end of the school day.:

How should climate change be taught in schools? Hear Clive Belgeonne talk about the exciting approach being developed in Sheffield.

Learn Sheffield, DECSY and Schools Climate Education South Yorkshire have developed a partnership to provide climate change education for teachers, school leaders and school governors. Learn Sheffield's aim is that all teachers will be confident to teach about the climate and nature emergencies by 2030.

Drawing from cutting-edge climate research, the game challenges the knowledge of players regarding climate problems and solutions while teaching them as they play. Whether it’s climate science, public policy, climate tech and finance, renewable energy, fossil fuels, food systems and nature-based solutions or climate adaptation, it’s all in the mix.

Two modes of play allow players as young as 7 to have fun playing their favourite characters whilst learning about a subject that is already shaping their future. The harder mode suits more advanced players, including adults.
