Close-knit duo, Mum Leonie and daughter Jaimee bring a shared passion for horses and community, seamlessly fitting into our equine family. 

You'll often spot them lending a hand and providing coaching. Catch Leonie coaching at Parenga Pony Club on Sundays, and she's also available for a few lessons. Their genuine enthusiasm adds a special touch to our equine community.

Hi, my name is Leonie Belk. 

I am really excited about joining the team at Phillips Equine. I have been involved with horses since a young age, and have been lucky enough to learn from a variety of talented and experienced people. My daughter Jaimee and I have just moved to Hamilton from Gisborne. On our amazing property in Gisborne we provided holiday camps, and lessons to a variety of people at various stages of their riding careers (check out Equestrian at Matawai 1912 on Facebook). I am a teacher in my day job, and am currently teaching at Berkley Normal Middle School.

As a teenager I enjoyed eventing and was lucky enough to represent my area at Pony Club Champs on several occasions. However, my attention turned to show jumping, which I did full time for several years - riding to World Cup level. I have also always competed successfully in Show Hunter and dressage to Level 4 - with several National title wins and placings.

I love coaching and supporting athletes, both young and old, to reach their goals. I coach both equestrian sport and netball to representative level, and have enjoyed much success in both sports. this includes coaching the Gisborne PC team to winning the NZPC Show Jumping Champs.

I look forward to meeting many of you and supporting you with your horsemanship and riding goals.

Hi, my name is Jaimee Rika. I am 15 and very passionate about horses. I have been around them since I was a baby. In the last 5 years I have competed up to 1.15 in show jumping, been successful in show hunter on both horses and ponies, picked up a few champion ribbons in showing and competed successfully in level 1 dressage. I have experience with a range of horses from off the track thoroughbreds to pure bred dressage horses and jumpers. I look forward to meeting lots of new people at Philips Equine.

I want to talk about another effort that promotes mental well-being – the Gratitude Journals.

Our friend Andrew Jones, and Parenga Pony Club father has crafted a gratitude journal, and he's giving it away for free to Year 9 students in the Waikato. This journal is designed to help build resilience and happiness, especially during the teenage years.
