Help to support The Hockey Paper in sporting lockdown

Our business has been impacted in the same way as every other during the coronavirus crisis. The reality is in these difficult times is that we are not the only independent business or media print title facing tough decisions.

The pandemic has had a major impact on advertising, which helps pay the costs to our print subscribers. The curtailed season also left us with a difficult decision to make as to whether to carry on printing with no domestic, cup and international tournaments to preview and review. Moreover, a large proportion of our print newspapers are sent directly to clubs and schools, which are currently shut.

With this in mind, we have taken the decision to stop printing our title for three editions up until the pre-season. All subscriptions will be halted and no money taken until we return, but our main priority is to continue gaining subscribers ahead of our expected return in August. We hope you understand the predicament we and other print media titles are facing at this time.

Over the coming weeks, we will keep online up to date, as well as preparing stories and features on the coronavirus outbreak and our second #watchyour1s campagin before the new season. Annual subscribers will also receive exclusive newsletter content.

Our digital pieces over the last month have reached record levels in terms of traffic, with audience figures up 60% on this time last year and over 100,000 page impressions. Certain stories resonate, from the pandemic stories or the skirt v skort piece from our print edition, which over 6,500 have read to date online. And we still publish far less online than in print.

Over the coming weeks, we will publish special themed weeks. We start this week by focusing on GB and England Hockey, speaking to players, coaches and England Hockey's CEO. We will also focus on clubs and if hockey will be hit hard financially across the country, as well as profiling the sport's rich history.

We will also publish some of our best features from our print product to engage with readers to consider taking out a subscription.

To keep The Hockey Paper as the sport's No 1 media outlet, our request to you today and before the new season is to help us so that we are able to continue being the most authoritative voice in hockey. Our subscription packages are available here.

Please keep contacting us via social media or to newsdesk@thehockeypaper.co.uk
