This month, sophomore Student Associate, Adriana, was assigned floor warden for her company’s annual fire drill. For this school year, Adriana is placed at Heffernan Insurance Brokers located in Downtown San Francisco.

When describing the process of becoming floor warden, Adriana says: “In preparation for my company’s fire drill, I learned where all the closest fire extinguishers are located, familiarized myself with the emergency exits and I even got to wear an orange vest and hat! Weeks prior to the drill, I attended Zoom meetings to learn about our building’s emergency procedures and watched fire and earthquake safety training videos. When the alarms went off, I directed the evacuation and we all headed down the emergency stairwell. Our meeting place was four floors beneath us. Once we were there, I ensured all of our personnel were present by noting their names on a clipboard. This experience has taught me the importance of quick action, clear thinking and calm leadership.”

While on our semi-annual site visits, our team got to get a glimpse of what our Student Associates do day-to-day at their job sites. This month, we would like to showcase the valuable work experience our students at Capital Group and Spyglass Capital Management engage in on their work day. It’s a great chance for them to gain exposure to the exciting world of finance!

"Currently, I am working on a Trading Project where I review stock price and surrounding news of one of Spyglass Capital Management's portfolio companies. Every week, I put the information in an Excel spreadsheet, where I can track the stock's movement through charts and graphs. I also meet with the Head of Trading every week to review the information I gathered regarding the stock." - Jasmin, Class of 2024

"Working at Spyglass Capital Management has allowed me to participate in many exciting projects. A current project I am working on this year is a Trading Project. For this project, I observe the movement of a company over a few weeks and calculate any changes. How a company's stock moves up and down, and the possibilities of its movement. She has shown a proactive attitude, consistently arriving at the office each week and efficiently completing daily administrative tasks without my presence. She is meticulous and responsible, and when asked to assist with data import tasks, I rarely need to double-check her work. She also seeks guidance promptly when encountering uncertainties. "Aixa has been working closely with our CFO since her Freshman year helping with an ongoing Accounting Project. She organizes and saves all expenses in an orderly fashion so that everything is easy to access by our CFO. She reconciles our monthly credit card statements and ensures we have all necessary receipts. She then updates a master spreadsheet and enters codes for each expense according to the categories our CFO uses for accounting purposes. She is very thorough in everything she does, she asks great questions, and she has great attention to detail. Her professional growth is impressive.
