Join us at the 8th Desert Energy Leadership Summit, organised by Dii, with the support of the Network, GEIDCO and the League of Arab States, 13-14 November 2017, Dubai, UAE  

This year’s Summit will bring together global visionaries, regional and international industry leaders and political forces all in one place to discuss and debate the perspectives and practical implementations of the southern Mediterranean, European and West Asian interconnected power systems in the transition toward full sustainability.
The event combines unique exclusive features for its high-level participants including round tables, keynote and Top Executive Panel, Exclusive networking dinner, a site visit to Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park - Al Qudra.

Join us at the CSP Seville: The Network organising a session on CSP innovation and EU GCC research collaboration prospects, 20-22 November, Seville, Spain

As part, if the CSP Seville 2017 Programme, the Network is organising a Session on: "CSP in the GCC region: EU GCC cooperation prospects including for research and innovation". The workshop will also highlight and discuss on the prospects for joint EU GCC research activities on topics of common interest, including in the framework of H2020.

The Network at the 7th Annual Smart Grids and Smart Meters Summit, 28-29 November 2017, Dubai, UAE

The 7th edition of the Smart Grids and Smart Meters Summit will take place in Dubai, UAE on 28 and 29 November 2017. The Network is among the supporting partners of the event. Dr. Mustapha Taoumi, Energy Technology Expert of the EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network is an invited speaker and will present “The role of smart grids and storage in integrating variable Renewable Energy sources.”

Impressions from the Network presence at the  WETEX/ Dubai Solar Show (DSS), October 23-25 2017, Dubai, UAE

 

The participation of the Network at the Dubai Solar Show, part of WETEX was successfully and fruitfully ended. The pavilion, that the Network owned and in which EU and GCC companies were hosted, presenting their services and products, was one of the most visited and aroused the visitors' interest in the Network's activities. 
We had the pleasure to welcome H.E. Ambassador Patrizio Fondi and Dr Taina Sateri, Trade Counsellor of the Delegation of the European Union to the United Arab Emirates and introduce them to the companies' representatives hosted at the Network's pavilion. 
The Network had a strong presence and contributed to a series of events organised within the framework of the Dubai Solar Show Seminar Week. 
Specifically, within the Tackling Climate Change: An EU Success Story session, an one hour presentation entitled "How Hydrogen Enables the Energy Transition: a European Perspective" was delivered by Frank Wouters, Network's Director while Dr Mustapha Toumi, Clean Energy Technology Expert presented on the "Overview of Regulatory Frameworks and Policies Necessary to Drive the Uptake of Renewables in the MENA Region". Dr Florian Klumpp, Network’s Industry Collaboration Coordinator, participated in the panel discussion "Current Challenges to Increasing Uptake in the Region and Solutions". 
The Network received an honorary gift for its contribution to the three-day event as a Knowledge Partner. We take this opportunity to thank the organisers for this fruitful collaboration and congratulate them for the excellent delivery of the three-day event. 

Highlights from the workshop and Training "Energy Efficiency: A Key Driver for Clean Energy Transition" focus on "Energy Efficiency and Cooling Technologies", 2-3 October 2017, Kuwait

The Kuwait Society of Engineers (KSE) and the EU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Network organised a successful two-day high level workshop and training on energy efficiency and cooling technologies, held at the KSE premises. The event was under the Patronage of the Minister of the Oil and the Minister of the Electricity and Water, Mr. Essam Al Marzooq, and was organised in association with the College of Technological Studies - PAAET. 

During the opening ceremony, addresses were made by

  • HE Minister of the Oil and Minister of the Electricity and Water, Mr. Essam Al Marzooq
  • Mr. Faisal Alajmi, Chairman of Kuwait Society of Engineers
  • Ms Lucie Berger, Head of Trade Section at the EU Delegation to KSA and the Gulf
  • Dr. Hilal M. Almukhaini, Director, Energy Department, GCC Secretariat General
  • Mr. Frank Wouters, Director, EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network.

The meeting gathered more than 200 distinguished experts from the EU and the GCC, representing at a high level the European Commission, the KSE, the EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network, the GCC Secretariat General, the Ministry of Electricity and Water of Kuwait, PAAET, Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, Public Authority of Housing Welfare, Eurovent ME, EuroHeat and Power, Clean Energy Business Council, as well as other leading public and private sector representatives and experts (ENGIE, Griffin Consultants, OpenExp, Ebmpapst ME, BeyondC, One smart Control, KIPCO, Econoler, etc. Moerover, there was a presentation that was very successfully delivered though webconference from DG Energy (Mr Ewout Deurwaarder). 
The Network is looking forward to interesting follow up activities with its Kuwaiti partners that have been excellent hosts.

The Network following the Study tour of Hydrogen Europe, September 28-29, 2017, Germany-Netherlands

Frank Wouters, the Network Director was invited to  to participate and speak during “The Hydrogen Experience”, a two day study tour  of the S&D Group, consisting of Members of the European Parliament, the Hydrogen Europe team led by Jorgo Chatzimakakis, and high level researchers and experts from Delft University,  from CLEPA (association of car parts manufacturers) as well from the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking. The tour visited hydrogen projects in Groningen (Gasunie, Akzo Nobel), Werlte (Audi’s Power-to-Gas/Methanation site) and Duisburg (Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Center (ZBT)). Prospects for hydrogen applications in the GCC regions were discussed. 

The Network at the InterSolar Middle East, 2017, Network Session "Enablers for the Accelerated Integration of Renewable Energy Electricity", 26-27 September 2017, Dubai UAE

The Network partnered with Intersolar Middle East 2017 taking place in Dubai on September 26-27, 2017 and organised a session focusing on the key enablers for an accelerated integration of renewable energy sources (RES) in the grid, suitable for the Middle East region. We were honored to have a session with excellent contributions and interesting panel discussion with:

Webinar: Intelligent Energy Management – The smart cities unicorn, 20 September 2017

The webinar introduced the main concept of Smart Energy Cities and intelligent energy management. Smart Energy Cities, as a core pillar of the smart cities, constitute an emerging urban development strategy, that incorporates Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and take advantage of their numerous capabilities in the context of energy efficiency and sustainability. The webinar aimed at presenting and discussing on relevant EU and GCC best practices, prospects for cooperative activities.  Innovative user-friendly digital applications were highlighted, in order to leverage data from smart meters into value for the buildings’ occupants, through actionable personalised information, recommendations and incentives for behavioural energy efficiency. Illustrative applications for the built environment will be also discussed, based on the results of the EU experience, such as the OPTIMUS European project, with perspectives for applicability in the GCC region. The Network at the CSP Focus MENA 2017, 13-14 September 2017, Dubai, UAE

The CSP Focus MENA 2017 took place in Dubai, UAE on 13-14 September 2017. Mr Frank Wouters, Director at EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network chaired the 2nd day of the conference.
