Dear USET/USET SPF Family,
The White House Tribal Affairs Team announced today that it will hold an update for Tribal Leaders on the federal Monkeypox response. This update will be held on Friday, September 2, 2022 at 3:00 Eastern.
The first phase of the Biden-Harris Monkeypox Response was initiated on June 28, 2022. The first phase of the response focused on distributing Monkeypox vaccines across the health system, and on making testing convenient and efficient for providers and patients. Prior to this announcement, Monkeypox vaccines were given only to those with confirmed exposures. Since June 28, the Department of Health and Human Services has distributed over 200,000 doses of the vaccine. Over the course of the summer, HHS intends to make over 750,000 doses available, with another 500,000 doses to be released in the fall.
To date, the Indian Health Service (IHS) has received a total allocation of 1,620 vials of the Monkeypox vaccine. These vials have been distributed among the IHS Service Areas, with the Nashville Area receiving 80 vials. Each vial contains 5 doses, if administered according to the new clinical guidance for Monkeypox vaccine administration.
Those interested in the White House Tribal Update on the Monkeypox Response, held tomorrow, September 2 at 3:00 pm EST, should register here for the event.
