Dear USET/USET SPF Family,
The Indian Health Service (IHS), in collaboration with the National Indian Health Board, will hold an informational webinar on the implications of the end of the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE) on the Medicaid program.
As of February 1st, 2023, state Medicaid programs are able to begin eligibility redeterminations for the millions of Medicaid beneficiaries who were kept on state Medicaid rolls through the PHE. Starting April 1, 2023 state Medicaid programs will be able to begin disenrolling beneficiaries deemed ineligible during the redetermination process. The process of these redeterminations and disenrollments is known as Medicaid unwinding. In the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023, Congress separated the end of the PHE from this process of Medicaid unwinding. USET SPF has been closely following the PHE and Medicaid unwinding in our region.
IHS will hold the informational webinar on March 1, 2023 from 1:00 – 2:30 pm ET. Interested participants can register here. IHS plans to cover unwinding updates, best practices for Tribal enrollment assisters, and strategies for communication and education. USET SPF will attend the webinar and will provide unwinding updates as they are available.
