U.S. Senators and Members of Congress from Michigan Support Lake Restoration
In a bipartisan show of support, U.S. senators and members of Congress from Michigan asked the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to assist the State of Michigan and our communities in recovering from the dam failures of May 2020.
In their letter, the elected officials note the cost to restore the lakes would be an "onerous burden on the communities and individual property owners that are still recovering from this catastrophic funding."
The letter came after legislative bills were proposed by the Michigan House and Senate on the one-year anniversary of the dam failures. These bills requested $500 million in funding for dam repair in Michigan, with a significant allocation to the Four Lakes dams.
This unprecedented state and federal support will make it possible to bring back the vibrancy of our communities. We are grateful to our elected officials and we urge property owners to express their thanks and support for those who share our mission to bring back the lakes.
