Cat Tales - Ollie vs Fen
Without a doubt, the highlight of May, was watching Ollie and our new robo vac, Fenestra (or Fen for short).
Ok so firstly, why did we call the robo vac Fenestra?
Well, when I was in high school, we had a vacuum cleaner called, Crichton, because my older sisters were fans of the show, Buck Rodgers in the 25th Century.
In university, my best friend and I watched multiple episodes of Red Dwarf back to back, and when I moved out, I bought a vacuum cleaner and called it, Kryten.
So when we took out the new robo vac, it needed a name, but with a plethora of vacuum cleaners out in the world called Crichton or Kryten (hubby looked it up and apparently it's the most common vacuum cleaner name) - I decided this one would get a different name. Considering we'd all just finished reading Nevermoor which features a very large temperamental cat (a magnificat) called Fenestra, who is the cleaner for the Hotel Deucalion, my son suggested the name Fen, and it's stuck. The pic on the left is the first meeting of Ollie and Fen.
Okay, so how Fen works: We had to download an app, and it shows you in real time what Fen's doing and where she is vacuuming. (First she outlines the space, and then she goes back and fills it all in).
So how did the Ollie vs Fen battle play out?
Basically, he likes her a lot more than our other vacuum (to the point that he pretty much just sits there and watches her. Whereas with the other vacuum, he jumps on top of the cupboards, and stays there until it's put away).
One reason he likes Fen better might be because she is quieter and smaller than the other vacuum, but I think he likes her more because she's respected that he's topcat (based on the photographic proof). In the pic on the right - the blue line is Fen's path, and the empty little semi-circle (see the red arrow) shows you where Ollie was sitting and that Fen actually went around him. LOL!
So in the Ollie vs Fen showdown, the score is: Ollie 1, Fen 0 :-).
Anyway, I think I failed at attempting a short newsletter again, so I'm going to end things here. But I'd love to hear from you:
- Does your vacuum cleaner have a name? (if so what is it?:-)
- And, what was a book that made you cry (but you love, because it was so good?).
Okay, I'd better get back to the editing. Have a great month!
Lisa
