Even in the South of France, the weather is noticeably cooler by November. Although, on the French Riviera, brave swimmers still venture into the water for their ritual exercise. In the countryside, it takes a while for the fog layer to burn off in the mornings. However, once the blue sky appears, the conditions are perfect for long walks. Watch for splashes of colour everywhere, with olives turning shades of a deep purple-black and grapevines in hues of orange and yellow. Before the Toussaint flowers fade this week, visit a local graveyard for the showy chrysanthemums. Most of all, enjoy sunny days with fewer crowds as the tourists have dissipated and the school (fall) holidays are almost over.
