Hey there ,

What does Tim Burton's 'Batman' (Michael Keaton, Jack Nicholson), 'Breaking Bad', Oprah Winfrey's first talk show (Chicago 1986) and Spider Man have in common?

No one expected them to succeed.

In fact, in the case of Batman and Breaking Bad people were tuning in/going to the movie just to see how AWFUL they would turn out. Michael Keaton? The Beetlejuice guy?? Mr. Mom? -as Batman? Directed by the guy who DID Beetlejuice? C'mon! Bryan Cranston... who? The 'Malcom in the Middle' guy? As a bad-ass drug peddler? Who are you trying to kid?

And with Oprah, her daytime talk show went up against the Chicago area juggernaut Phil Donahue, doing essentially the same thing.

Spider Man premiered in the last 5 issues (Amazing Adult Fantasy) of a comic that was going to be cancelled.

So, if you're looking for the Next Big Thing, maybe look at what's on your plate -if you're a creator. Or look at that 'nobody cares about it 'cept me' novel/movie/tv show you're following...

... you may be on to something.
