Dear USET/USET SPF Family,
The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and Treasury recently reached out to USET SPF in an effort to raise awareness on the Coronavirus Capital Project Fund, a program established under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (P.L. 117-2), which allocated $100 million to directly support Tribal governments. For the benefit of our membership, NTIA/Treasury will provide an informational presentation on the Coronavirus Capital Projects Fund (Capital Projects Fund) to USET SPF Tribal Nations on Thursday, November 18, 2021 from 10:00am to 11:00am ET.

Background on Capital Projects Fund
On September 20, 2021, Treasury launched the Capital Projects Fund and began accepting applications from Tribal Nations on October 1, 2021. Treasury has calculated a per-Tribe allocation of the Capital Projects Fund based on the total number of federally recognized Tribal Nations. Under this allocation methodology, Treasury has determined that $167,504 will be allocated to each Tribal Nation. The deadline to apply for the Capital Projects Fund is June 1, 22, 2022 and Tribal Nations can apply through the Capital Projects Fund Web Portal.
The Capital Projects Fund aims to assist Tribal Nations with critical capital projects that directly enable work, education, and health monitoring (including remote options) in response to the COVID-19 public health emergency. Funding for capital projects involving broadband infrastructure has been made a priority to provide reliable and affordable broadband services on Tribal lands. Funds can also be used for certain other capital projects such as multi-purpose community facilities that enable work, education, and healthcare monitoring.

Treasury has also created a “Guidance for the Coronavirus Capital Projects Fund for Tribal Governments” document, which can be viewed by clicking here.
